It utilizes the user’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and makes an average of 26 million matches a day.
Number 9: FriendFinder.com
Founded in 1996, this publicly traded company has over 520 million members in over 200 countries. In 2007 FriendFinder Networks was purchased by the adult media corporation, Penthouse Media Group.
Number 8: PlentyOfFish.com
Coming in at #8 is PlentyOfFish. It was founded in Canada in 2003 and has over 100 million registered users. According to the CEO, Markus Frind, it has a unique feature that no other dating website has, it keeps age gaps to less than 14 years.

Spark Networks owns many special interest dating websites including Spark.com, Jdate.com, and ChristianMingle.com. Spark.com is a general interest dating site, which allows users free access to view pictures, member profiles, and access forums before joining and paying a low monthly fee.

Endorsed by Psychology Today, True.com offers users a ‘transparent experience’. It conducts background checks on all of its 10+ million members. Users can access chat rooms, forums, member profiles during a 3-day free trial, however, after the trial is over the monthly fee is a hefty sum of $50.

Lavalife was founded in 1987 and began as a telephone dating service offering newspaper ad connections. In 2014, it was relaunched with a user friendly online interface and offers connections to the user’s social media accounts. OkCupid was created by 4 students at Harvard University to create a more entertaining, fun approach to dating. Facebook sponsors OkCupid, offering matches after comparing users Facebook likes/dislikes. Members can play games, take quizzes, and exchange private messages. OkCupid has a blog called OkTrends which shows current and past dating trends/statistics.

Considered to be the pioneer of the online dating world is #3, Match.com. It boasts 15 million members worldwide and 500,000 successful relationships created. It has a great user interface and offers a lot of extras. It is #3 and not #1 due to the hidden fees associated with creating an account and to find the monthly cost takes a bit of digging around on the website.

Founded in 2000 by psychologist and relationship expert, Dr. Neil Clark Warren, eHarmony is a one-of-a-kind online dating experience. Unlike other dating sites, not everyone can join eHarmony. A 250-300 question test is given prior to be accepted and those that show signs of depression or have been in multiple failed marriages will likely not be accepted. The #1 Best Dating Site is Chemistry.com. Launched in 2008, it is has been built around a specific algorithm created by Dr. Helen Fisher. Dr. Fisher is an anthropologist and scholar who has refined a personality test that will match people of both genders (eHarmony does not match those of the same gender.)and as of 2015, almost 13 million people have taken the Chemistry.com personality tests.
